Week five was a little different than the previous weeks. For one... it snowed. That's right. Snowed. It is April for crying out loud. Note to anyone who reads this... If you don't like having to bounce back and forth between spring and winter don't move to Logan, Utah. Anyway... There was no long walk to class for me and Longbranch Pennywhistle on Wednesday. Way too cold. We definitely did in fact take the bus. Yes sir. After we got to class (Which due to early arrival of the bus, we were early to) there didn't seem to be anyone around to whom we could give our delicious fruit. We sat through our first class... found a guy we considered giving it to in class... but he left early so he didn't get it. Too bad for him for skipping class. :S
After our first class we didn't really want to go outside (still too cold...and by this time it was snowing again. blech). so we gave it to someone who sat down in front of us. Since he was in our class we actually got to have a conversation with him... and there was no awkward running away and hiding. ha. We found out his name, where he's from... you know, the usual. He seems like a pretty cool guy. And he didn't seem to think we were creepy... I hope. I promised him we weren't... I told him we didn't inject it with anything... and that we aren't creepers. I hope he believed us. No contact though. But at least we know his name! Of course... it was the last day of that class so we'll probably never see him again. but... oh well. Too bad we didn't start pineapple Wednesday earlier. We could have made lasting friendships or something like that. ha.
Aloha! Happy pineapple Wednesday!

Today I was looking around the internet for other pineapple related blogs.. ya know, just checking to see if anyone else out there randomly gave away pineapples, when I suddenly stumbled across this!
Remember Pineapple Guy #3? He sent me that text about seeing the guy playing the mandolin and asking for miracles. It just so happens I may have stumbled across mandolin guy's blog!
Check it out!
http://jessewessy.blogspot.com/2010/04/miracles-they-told-me-about.html
See that first miracle?! That's totally us from the Pineapple Project! :) I feel super spiff now. It's like we're pretty legit. Now if only someone would actually read this... heh.
Oh. And to update about week 4... No call from our new friend Shawn. :( Bummer. We tried though, right? And there's still time. He can still check the blog... maybe... who knows?!
Well... Aloha!

Week 4 has had an interesting twist. I procrastinated printing the pineapple card (all due to my annoying printer deciding it will no longer print yellow despite a full ink cartridge) until about 11:30 last night. Sleeping roommate = not a happy camper. Oops! But I got it done. And I think it looked okay... despite a lack of yellow. (grr on you printer!)
This morning I threw on my pineapple shirt, ready for a great Pineapple Wednesday! "Methuselah Honeysuckle" and I started walking to class our usual way, cutting through the cemetery. Usually, we only see one or two people walking to class through the cemetery, but today it was full of artists! There were tons of people drawing in the cemetery today. Methuselah and I were a bit baffled at first. Joking, I suggested we give our pineapple away to someone in the cemetery so my arms wouldn't get tired walking all the way to class and so i wouldn't get any pineapple inflicted battle wounds again. We didn't really pass right next to anyone, so we didn't give out our pineapple in the first half of the cemetery. My arms were getting tired (hey, carrying a pineapple all the way to the other side of campus while trying to avoid battle wounds is hard work okay?!) so I vowed that if we found anyone before we left the cemetery, we were giving it to that person. Period. End of discussion. Methuselah, bless her heart, usually just goes along with my plans anyway (how else do you think I convinced her to wander around campus with me and give away a pineapple?), and today was just like every other. To my surprise, blocked from my view by a tall tree, sat a person. I knew we had to give him the pineapple! After almost forgetting to introduce ourselves, we gave away our pineapple. This gentleman had a much better outlook about the pineapple than the guy from Week 2! (THANK YOU Pineapple Guy #4)
We headed off to class, not thinking much of our deed. And treating it much like a regular day. Boring classes. Yada. Yada. And then Nutrition came about. I officially hate that class starting... well, today. Why? Because I don't get cell phone service in that classroom! Blech! Today while sitting in nutrition... I apparently received a call (that went straight to voicemail) from the roommate of our pineapple winner. I didn't get the message until I got home later in the day, but listened to it as soon as I got a chance! The message said something like "Hi Amy Jo my name is Shawn and you gave my roommate a pineapple today! I just wanted to say thank you because it brightened up his day and it brightened up my day and now it's brightening up our house. So I just wanted to say thank you so much to you and to Methuselah Honeysuckle." Yes. I practically memorized it... but lots of people (roommates, friends, etc.) like to stay updated on the events of the pineapple. I must say I was incredibly excited to receive this message! I was all set and ready to call back when... I realized that due to lack of service during nutrition... It didn't have a call back number. :( :( Devastated. I did in fact share the message with Methuselah as soon as I saw her. She was quite pleased as well, but also disappointed there was no callback number. We did, however, really enjoy the fact that the caller's name is "Shawn" (sorry if that is not the correct spelling) and he could pronounce the name Methuselah. We sort of wonder if it was just a ploy and that he just knows psych and is testing us to see if that is where we got our inspiration. If so.. the answer is yes. It is.
Dear Shawn. If you read this, which I hope you do. I would just like you to know that I am truly sorry for the fact that I have no way to reach you. Feel free to call/text again (or even comment on the blog!) Methuselah and I are always happy to hear from Pineapple Wednesday winners... or roommates of Pineapple Wednesday winners! Love, Amy Jo.
In any case, Dear probably non-existent blog readers.. I will update you if anything happens!

Week 3
Week three has been my favorite week so far. It has, in fact, been the most fruitful. :) Yes I do realize I use that word a lot. But I'm writing a blog about pineapple for crying out loud! What do you expect?! Anyway, the pineapple shirt came just in time for week three to my surprise! :) Donning my new favorite shirt, "Ghee Buttersnaps" and I set out with our pineapple in search of another lucky winner! Despite the battle wounds via pineapple from wearing a short sleeve shirt, I faithfully carried my pineapple to the far end of campus. No luck finding a guy on the way to class. As I stopped on the quad to chat with some friends, I began searching through the masses to find the perfect recipient. There he was! This guy met all the requirements... so I awkwardly ran up to him, with Ghee following right behind! I gave the little spiel and handed him the pineapple. He was super excited and I knew I had found a winner! :) He even shouted across the quad, "I JUST WON A PINEAPPLE!" Let's just say, I hoped this pineapple guy would make an attempt to contact me at the pineapple hotline number. We went our separate ways after that... despite my urge to follow him. Any guy with such enthusiasm about Pineapple Wednesday just has to be cool right?
Not long into my second class of the day, I received a text from an unknown number. It read: "Shortly after receiving a pineapple from you, I found a man playing the mandolin asking for people to write down miracles and give them to him. I wrote down the story of pineapple wednesday." Wow. Best Pineapple response yet! I knew this guy had to be awesome! Calling Pineapple Wednesday a miracle?! I couldn't believe it! I really had to fight the urge to scream and jump around a bit... but I was in class so that may not have been kosher. I hoped for a response to my reply... but nothing. Pineapple Guy... if you're out there... I promise I'm not really as creepy as I sound... but I think you're pretty awesome! Thanks for the text! And I truly am glad to hear you think Pineapple Wednesday is a Miracle!
UPDATE ON WEEK 2
Shortly after updating my facebook status about Pineapple Wednesday week 3, a friend of mine asked what it was all about. She explained to me that her roommate had received a pineapple last Wednesday and was curious to know why. At first I was excited! Pineapple Wednesday was spreading already?! My hopes were soon crushed, however, when she described MY pineapple! Everything from the card to the bow! Everything. (They didn't actually read the card though to know it was me!) Apparently Pineapple guy number 2 (the one who hasn't made an effort to contact me) thinks I'm a bit of a creeper. He went to class (a class that he happens to have with my friend's roommate) with his pineapple, and when he was asked about it said something to the effect of "It's pineapple Wednesday. I don't know if this is okay to eat but you can have it if you want." He just gave it away. Ironic though, that he gave it to my friend's roommate. Happy Pineapple Wednesday to her I guess! They all told me they enjoyed it, so that makes it worthwhile anyway. :)

I know I already posted today... but, like I said in the earlier post... I am a few weeks behind. So here I am, ready to post again. :) Week two was slightly less fruitful (forgive the pun) than week 1. I was desperate. I couldn't find anyone/didn't have time to find anyone before class, so I had to carry a pineapple around with me to two different classes! Before the third, however, I was determined to give away the pineapple. From across the quad I pointed to a guy walking in our direction. Motioning for "Clementine Woolysocks" to follow I headed toward the unsuspecting winner.
After introducing ourselves, Clementine and I handed off our pineapple to a much less enthusiastic participant than last week. :( Bummer. I had little faith that he would make any effort to contact us at the special pineapple hotline number... aka my cell phone.
I was right. All throughout the day I had a small smidgen of hope that he would call or text. But nothing. I wasn't surprised. But a good friend told me to think positively. He wasn't cool enough to be my friend anyway. Only people who appreciate the pineapple are good enough to be my friend. At least according to my dear friend. :)
I ordered a Psych pineapple shirt. I was hoping it would be here by week 2.. but it wasn't. Hopefully next week though right?! I can't wait to wear it!! (and it comes with a stress pineapple. haha) Can't wait to use that! (Finals week is coming up... and also the last few weeks of the USU Pineapple Wednesday.)

I am a bit behind in my posting (seeing as tomorrow will be week 4, but I am determined to get all the pineapple project stories up and running).
Week 1 was a rather terrifying experience. I was practically embarrassed to be walking around the USU campus carrying a pineapple. Silly, I know. I just couldn't get up the courage to actually give away my pineapple. I tried on the way to my first class, but just didn't have the courage. Once again, Silly. I know. After class, however, I had ten minutes. Just ten minutes to give away this delectable bit of deliciousness. Suddenly walking towards me, I found the perfect candidate. There are only a few requirements for being awarded the great honor of the pineapple. You have to be walking alone and look like you're a nice person who will appreciate the splendor of the Pineapple Wednesday Pineapple.
So there he was the perfect candidate right in front of my eyes. But would I have the courage to give away my pineapple? Suddenly he was literally right in front of me! Now or never. I sidestepped in front of him. "Hi my name is Amy Jo and this is my friend Lavender Gooms," I said. "And you have just won the Pineapple Wednesday Pineapple! Congratulations!" Talk about a mouthful. He seemed excited as I shoved the pineapple into his hands. Nervous about how he would react, I turned and ran!
I didn't expect much to come of the first Pineapple Wednesday. Everyone told me not to get my hopes up. (though of course I did). To my surprise at around 5pm that evening I received a text message from an unknown number. "Hi thanks for the pineapple. I haven't ate it yet but I'm sure it will be tasty" the text read. PINEAPPLE GUY! I was so excited! I ran across the hall (I live in a dorm building) to find my friends and ask them how to respond. Of course I had to respond. I said something to the effect of Congrats. Hope you like the pineapple. yada yada. Nothing too fancy. He texted back again. Surprise! But only to ask if Pineapple Wednesday is a weekly occurrence. That I truly did not know how to answer. But somehow I did. He never texted back.
But somehow, I feel like I gained a lot from the experience. Pineapple Guy number 1, thanks for not thinking I'm a real creeper!

What is the Pineapple Project you ask? My version of the pineapple project is a little event scheduled every Wednesday... a day i have taken to calling, you guessed it! Pineapple Wednesday. :) On Pineapple Wednesday, a friend and I give away a pineapple (complete with card, bows, and curly ribbon) to a random stranger. (Since I am a female I must admit this random stranger is usually a male...) The goal of this project is simply to meet new (and hopefully pineapple appreciative)people. Included in the card is a way to contact me... while my friend prefers to leave her number out of it and go by an alias (usually borrowed from an episode of Psych. i.e. Lavender Gooms, Ghee Buttersnaps, and Clementine Woolysocks).
The USA Network television series Psych was, I must admit, our inspiration. We love finding the pineapple in every episode and do like the idea of giving pineapples as housewarming presents, baby gifts, etc. And of course to random strangers on Wednesday! :)
