Bringing Wednesday Back...

Dear Pineapple Wednesday,

Now that it is summer and the perfect season for a nice refreshing bit of delicious flavor, I am secretly wishing that Pineapple Wednesday was no longer on hiatus. I am seriously considering bringing Pineapple Wednesday back. Again. I know I say this constantly, and then it just ends up stopping, but I miss it. I miss that nervousness when I walk up to some random stranger holding this somewhat exotic fruit. I miss introducing Clementine Woolysocks or Methuselah Honeysuckle. I miss hoping for a text message or a call or a comment on my blog. I miss wondering who this random recipient is, what they think, and whether or not they enjoyed the pineapple. As I sit at home on Wednesdays, I feel somewhat like something is missing from my life. I miss the crazy adventure that was Pineapple Wednesday. I miss the excitement, the nerves, the laughter, the stress, the time, the people, and everything about Pineapple Wednesday. I know it's a crazy, stupid idea. I know it's weird, but doesn't everyone deserve a little aloha every once in a while?
Comments? Concerns? Should I try again? Should we bring Pineapple Wednesday back once again?

Hiatus... Again...

So.. here's the deal. Due to scheduling conflicts, Pineapple Wednesday is on hiatus until something can be worked out. We are considering moving Pineapple Wednesday to Pineapple Tuesday. Comments? Thoughts? Due to work and school schedules, Pineapple Wednesday is being forced to happen after 8pm. There is absolutely NO ONE left at school. Our schedules just aren't working out at the current time. We are willing to take suggestions at the present time, however. :)

Sorry followers. :( Keep spreading the aloha in your own way though.

Sorry Pineapple Wednesday...

So Pineapple Wednesday just didn't happen this week. I know. That's awful, but it just didn't work out this week. To be honest, it's completely my fault. I got a new ukulele. That's my excuse. As lame as it is. It's a beautiful baritone ukulele (not that you care) but it came with a broken string. Instead of fulfilling my pineapple duties, I hunted all over for baritone ukulele strings. Before I knew it, I had to go to class. Game over.

But... the good news. :)

Today as I was on my way home from class, I was thinking about Pineapple Wednesday. Just then, I opened a fortune cookie. It read: "The project you have in mind will soon gain momentum." I think it's an omen. A good omen. Pineapple Wednesday is going places. Definitely. Well... it's also been turned into a short story!

My dear friend Katie Wan wrote this story inspired by Pineapple Wednesday. It's great and if you get the chance to read it, I hope you enjoy. :)

Well that's all for now! Aloha!

The New Week 2

Pineapple Wednesday came back for a second week. This time the adventure started at the grocery store. I had donned my Pineapple Wednesday shirt and headed off to buy the beloved pineapple. While making my purchase, the cashier made the mistake of asking me about my plans for the day. I told him ALLLL about Pineapple Wednesday. He probably thinks I'm pretty. Ha. No. He probably thinks I'm pretty crazy though. But whether he was actually interested or just playing along, he asked me what I do for the other days of the week. This is something I hadn't actually thought about. An expansion of Pineapple Wednesday?! Hmm... Probably won't happen I would be in the poor house! But he suggested ice cream for the weekends. I do so like ice cream. :)

So I guess what I'm saying is maybe we've spread the word a little bit? Maybe we have a new fan? Maybe still no one even knows about us. But hey, Provo! We're here. And we have pineapple! I was hoping that since so many people in Provo are apparently obsessed with Psych, that people would get it. It's only been 2 weeks so I guess we will just have to wait and see.

This week there was no hurried rush to get to the designated Pineapple delivery zone, no extensive search for a parking space where I won't get a ticket. It was a lot more calm than the first. Of course I talked too fast and started to get desperate and just shoved it in some poor soul's hands, but we are starting to get things figured out.

This week we started out in the science building. I had never set foot inside that building before, but it was cold outside and it was the first building with unlocked doors that we came too! We wandered a bit, but most people were in class or talking on their cell phones or listening to ipods. We seriously walked up and down every floor of that building before we decided to go somewhere else.

Can I just say how much I love the weird looks I get when people see us wandering around campus carrying a pineapple? If they only knew. I try to educate as many people as possible, but it's hard when there's only one pineapple to give away each week. Sigh. If only Pineapples were free and money grew on trees right?

Around this point I started getting tired of wandering in circles and started getting pretty desperate. Then I saw someone coming up the stairs. No cell phone. No ipod. Just coming up the stairs. I put on my big cheesy grin and stepped in front of him. I love that first reaction of people. I wish I could just take a picture of everyone's face. Ha. It would be so exciting. But I do my little spiel about me and my partner of the week "Galileo Humpkins." Let me tell you how hard that was to say about a girl without laughing. For real. I promised it wasn't toxic. Which I promise it really wasn't.

No updates to report on either week thus far. I think the people of USU were a little more open to random girls giving them pineapples... since we had updates on almost everyone there. But we are still willing to give UVU a chance. Maybe when spring rolls around and the days become warmer it will seem just a little less peculiar. But then again... maybe not. But Pineapple Wednesday will continue nevertheless.

Until next week...

Aloha!

And We're Back!

Pineapple Wednesday is officially back! My new partner and I have delivered the first pineapple... but not without some adventure! For those of you who have forgotten (or who are new to the Pineapple Project) here's the deal: Every Wednesday, my associate (this week Ghee Buttersnaps) and I head out and deliver a pineapple to a random stranger. Why? Who knows. Fun? The look on someone's face when a weird girl holding a pineapple sidesteps in front of them with a big grin on her face? The adventure that always comes with it? The mystery of who the recipient is and what they do with the pineapple? I don't know for sure. Maybe it's just a fun moment for me to break out of my comfort zone a little bit. But no matter the reason, Pineapple Wednesday is back in action.

Yesterday was the first Pineapple Wednesday in my new town and at my new school. It was exciting and exhilarating. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Pineapple Wednesday happens a little later than we would normally plan. My associate works until 2pm. And that's exactly when I start class. Until 7. :( The bad news is that it means there are very few people left on campus (and a majority of the people left are older and married). We are trying to find a solution... but for now I guess Pineapple Wednesday will have to remain a little later. This does come with a few adventures though.

My class is not at the main campus... And it's a culinary arts class. That means a couple of things. A. I'm 15 minutes away from campus when I start. B. I'm in an ugly chef uniform. C. I have the most awful hat hair.

After class... which got out LATE! (on the first Pineapple Wednesday! How rude!) I had to change my clothes in my car while driving to the main campus. It was a nightmare! During this process, my finger (that I wounded during class the day before) started spurting blood all over the place... including on the Pineapple Wednesday Pineapple Shirt! AYE! When I finally made it to the campus, there was nowhere to park! The institute parking was supposed to be open, but it wasn't and I don't have a campus parking pass! OH NO! So... I had to drive somewhere off campus to park and my associate had to come pick me up! Talk about stressful! The more time we wasted parking, the less chance we had to find someone to deliver our precious fruit to!

We entered the library, but there were very few people to be found, and those that were seemed to be engrossed in their homework or their headphones. I guess it is pretty early in the semester to be studying too much. We took a turn toward the Business and Science buildings. There were a few people here and there, but most of them were talking on their phones or talking to other people. (We don't like to interrupt).

Finally! We found a worthy candidate... though it's not like we have TOO many requirements. We just tend to look for someone that looks open to the possibility of receiving a pineapple from a random stranger. (We had an experience before where the "winner" gave away our pineapple! It was just coincidental that he happened to give it to the roommate of one of our friends. hah. funny right?) Well anyway, we found someone. I gave my spiel about how I'm not crazy and it's not toxic... which probably makes me sound more crazy. OOPS. :S I talked too fast... like always. But I think we got our point across.

No word from the winner yet.. but maybe. Both the number of the pineapple hotline (aka my cell phone) and the blog url were in the card. Maybe we will hear something! I will keep you updated!

In other news, my associate and I had an idea. (Okay really she had the idea.. and I just liked it.) Since there is an episode of Psych (our inspiration) entitled Tuesday the 17th, we are declaring any Tuesday the 17th a Pineapple Wednesday Holiday on which a Pineapple shall be given out. (How we are going to explain this to the recipient is to be determined, but we have until May to figure it out)

Well that's all for now, dear readers. I hope you had a wonderful Pineapple Wednesday!

Aloha!

Exciting News for Pineapple Wednesday!

Starting in January, Pineapple Wednesday is back with all new adventures! Coming to a campus near you... if you live in Orem/Provo anyway! With my transfer to UVU and my upcoming move to the Provo/Orem area, I am bringing back pineapple Wednesday. My dear friend Katie has given her permission to allow our dear friend Nicole to take over her spot as my Pineapple assistant since Katie and I were unfortunately separated. Since Nicole is also attending UVU and loves a good episode of Psych, she is the perfect candidate. I just thought everyone should know this great news that Pineapple Wednesday will be back, hopefully with some more wonderful adventures!

COMING SOON! :)

Dear Pineapple Wednesday,
I decided I officially need you back in my life. With the new season of Psych starting up again, I am trying to regain my mojo for Pineapple Wednesday. It's just hard because Methuselah/Clementine, etc. is usually working and I don't know anyone else here that is crazy enough to deliver pineapples to random strangers with me. :(
But the good news! I have made the first step in bringing back Pineapple Wednesday! I texted Methuselah/Clementine, etc. asking her if she could maybe perhaps find some time to give away a delicious offering of tropical fruit to a random stranger. :) So maybe if she finds some time we can bring back that epic adventure. :)

Aloha!

Neglected

Dear Pineapple Wednesday,

I'm sorry for I have neglected you. Moving home from school was CRAZY. And in this little place I call home there was really no one to deliver a pineapple to... except for creepy guys that hit on me at Walmart. Frankly, I don't deem them worthy of receiving such an honor. I move to a new school in about a week. Lavender Gooms/Ghee Buttersnaps/Methuselah Honeysuckle etc. will be home from her excruciatingly long trip, and we will be reunited... for a month. Hopefully during that time we can rekindle the magic of Pineapple Wednesday. And spread some more joy.
An update though... after taking a trip to Italy (where my dastardly cell phone refused to work. Imagine that. heh.) I returned home to find my cellular device flashing with a few unheard voicemails. Of course I felt the need to listen to them. And of course as always, that lovely (usually extremely annoying) feature of cell phones that causes them to play old mail first was indeed working. It informed me that my message from blahblahblah-blahblahblah-blahblahblahblah was going to be deleted. Little did I know that I had just been informed of the number I had been longing for ALL THIS TIME! Shawn! The roommate of cemetery pineapple guy! Remember him? The one whose number my phone REFUSED to tell me?! Yes. After all these months of torture... it finally gave in and told me the number.
Now the real question is... do I call it? Readers. If there are any of you. Tell me what to do! Is it too creepy to just give 'em a ring and say aloha? After all this time. There is that part of me... that crazed psych-addicted pineapple-giving part of me that desperately wants to. But that more sensible, timid, socially awkward person inside me that refuses to pick up the phone, type those digits and say "Hey. I don't know if you remember me... but I'm that crazy pineapple girl from Logan. How ya doin'?" What do I do? Anyone?
I doubt anyone reads of my pineapple adventures... but if you do, now is the time to give me your advice. Encouragement? Or lack thereof. Since Methuselah isn't here to tell me what to do (though she already told me to call him and is somehow thoroughly convinced that he is my future husband and I'm going to marry him someday) I need your help now, reader. And hey, Shawn? If you stumble across this? I'm not really as creepy as I sound... I promise. I'm just a girl who likes psych, pineapple, and making people happy. Spreading the Aloha, ya know? And I promise I'm not convinced you'll fall madly in love with me and we will get married. :) I'm not THAT big of a creeper for sure.

Aloha!

So... today was Pineapple Wednesday. But... I am a FAILURE! Due to finals and moving out of my apartment... I failed to give away a pineapple this week. :( Shame on me, I know. Instead I've spent my evening on the psych website playing games and watching episodes of psych. I did wear the pineapple shirt today though. :) That should make up for something right?!
I watched the theories of the pineapple videos from Psych too... does that count? haha. I like the guy that says the pineapple is happiness. Pineapple Wednesday is supposed to be about happiness. Bringing a bit of aloha, love, and happiness into someone's life. :) That's the goal.
The pineapple is the international welcome fruit. :) It's just a way to say hello! Embrace the pineapple. It rocks! It brings a little bit of paradise to (at this point for me at least...) Utah and soon to be Idaho I guess.
Sorry for failing at pineapple wednesday this week. :( Pineapple Thursday anyone? Even though that really just doesn't roll off the tongue. Bummer. Next week, dear friends. Next Week.

Aloha! Happy Pineapple Wednesday!

Week 5

Week five was a little different than the previous weeks. For one... it snowed. That's right. Snowed. It is April for crying out loud. Note to anyone who reads this... If you don't like having to bounce back and forth between spring and winter don't move to Logan, Utah. Anyway... There was no long walk to class for me and Longbranch Pennywhistle on Wednesday. Way too cold. We definitely did in fact take the bus. Yes sir. After we got to class (Which due to early arrival of the bus, we were early to) there didn't seem to be anyone around to whom we could give our delicious fruit. We sat through our first class... found a guy we considered giving it to in class... but he left early so he didn't get it. Too bad for him for skipping class. :S
After our first class we didn't really want to go outside (still too cold...and by this time it was snowing again. blech). so we gave it to someone who sat down in front of us. Since he was in our class we actually got to have a conversation with him... and there was no awkward running away and hiding. ha. We found out his name, where he's from... you know, the usual. He seems like a pretty cool guy. And he didn't seem to think we were creepy... I hope. I promised him we weren't... I told him we didn't inject it with anything... and that we aren't creepers. I hope he believed us. No contact though. But at least we know his name! Of course... it was the last day of that class so we'll probably never see him again. but... oh well. Too bad we didn't start pineapple Wednesday earlier. We could have made lasting friendships or something like that. ha.

Aloha! Happy pineapple Wednesday!

Wow! Week 3 update?

Today I was looking around the internet for other pineapple related blogs.. ya know, just checking to see if anyone else out there randomly gave away pineapples, when I suddenly stumbled across this!
Remember Pineapple Guy #3? He sent me that text about seeing the guy playing the mandolin and asking for miracles. It just so happens I may have stumbled across mandolin guy's blog!

Check it out!

http://jessewessy.blogspot.com/2010/04/miracles-they-told-me-about.html

See that first miracle?! That's totally us from the Pineapple Project! :) I feel super spiff now. It's like we're pretty legit. Now if only someone would actually read this... heh.

Oh. And to update about week 4... No call from our new friend Shawn. :( Bummer. We tried though, right? And there's still time. He can still check the blog... maybe... who knows?!

Well... Aloha!

Week 4

Week 4 has had an interesting twist. I procrastinated printing the pineapple card (all due to my annoying printer deciding it will no longer print yellow despite a full ink cartridge) until about 11:30 last night. Sleeping roommate = not a happy camper. Oops! But I got it done. And I think it looked okay... despite a lack of yellow. (grr on you printer!)
This morning I threw on my pineapple shirt, ready for a great Pineapple Wednesday! "Methuselah Honeysuckle" and I started walking to class our usual way, cutting through the cemetery. Usually, we only see one or two people walking to class through the cemetery, but today it was full of artists! There were tons of people drawing in the cemetery today. Methuselah and I were a bit baffled at first. Joking, I suggested we give our pineapple away to someone in the cemetery so my arms wouldn't get tired walking all the way to class and so i wouldn't get any pineapple inflicted battle wounds again. We didn't really pass right next to anyone, so we didn't give out our pineapple in the first half of the cemetery. My arms were getting tired (hey, carrying a pineapple all the way to the other side of campus while trying to avoid battle wounds is hard work okay?!) so I vowed that if we found anyone before we left the cemetery, we were giving it to that person. Period. End of discussion. Methuselah, bless her heart, usually just goes along with my plans anyway (how else do you think I convinced her to wander around campus with me and give away a pineapple?), and today was just like every other. To my surprise, blocked from my view by a tall tree, sat a person. I knew we had to give him the pineapple! After almost forgetting to introduce ourselves, we gave away our pineapple. This gentleman had a much better outlook about the pineapple than the guy from Week 2! (THANK YOU Pineapple Guy #4)
We headed off to class, not thinking much of our deed. And treating it much like a regular day. Boring classes. Yada. Yada. And then Nutrition came about. I officially hate that class starting... well, today. Why? Because I don't get cell phone service in that classroom! Blech! Today while sitting in nutrition... I apparently received a call (that went straight to voicemail) from the roommate of our pineapple winner. I didn't get the message until I got home later in the day, but listened to it as soon as I got a chance! The message said something like "Hi Amy Jo my name is Shawn and you gave my roommate a pineapple today! I just wanted to say thank you because it brightened up his day and it brightened up my day and now it's brightening up our house. So I just wanted to say thank you so much to you and to Methuselah Honeysuckle." Yes. I practically memorized it... but lots of people (roommates, friends, etc.) like to stay updated on the events of the pineapple. I must say I was incredibly excited to receive this message! I was all set and ready to call back when... I realized that due to lack of service during nutrition... It didn't have a call back number. :( :( Devastated. I did in fact share the message with Methuselah as soon as I saw her. She was quite pleased as well, but also disappointed there was no callback number. We did, however, really enjoy the fact that the caller's name is "Shawn" (sorry if that is not the correct spelling) and he could pronounce the name Methuselah. We sort of wonder if it was just a ploy and that he just knows psych and is testing us to see if that is where we got our inspiration. If so.. the answer is yes. It is.
Dear Shawn. If you read this, which I hope you do. I would just like you to know that I am truly sorry for the fact that I have no way to reach you. Feel free to call/text again (or even comment on the blog!) Methuselah and I are always happy to hear from Pineapple Wednesday winners... or roommates of Pineapple Wednesday winners! Love, Amy Jo.

In any case, Dear probably non-existent blog readers.. I will update you if anything happens!
Happy Pineapple Wednesday! Aloha!

Week 2

I know I already posted today... but, like I said in the earlier post... I am a few weeks behind. So here I am, ready to post again. :) Week two was slightly less fruitful (forgive the pun) than week 1. I was desperate. I couldn't find anyone/didn't have time to find anyone before class, so I had to carry a pineapple around with me to two different classes! Before the third, however, I was determined to give away the pineapple. From across the quad I pointed to a guy walking in our direction. Motioning for "Clementine Woolysocks" to follow I headed toward the unsuspecting winner.
After introducing ourselves, Clementine and I handed off our pineapple to a much less enthusiastic participant than last week. :( Bummer. I had little faith that he would make any effort to contact us at the special pineapple hotline number... aka my cell phone.
I was right. All throughout the day I had a small smidgen of hope that he would call or text. But nothing. I wasn't surprised. But a good friend told me to think positively. He wasn't cool enough to be my friend anyway. Only people who appreciate the pineapple are good enough to be my friend. At least according to my dear friend. :)
I ordered a Psych pineapple shirt. I was hoping it would be here by week 2.. but it wasn't. Hopefully next week though right?! I can't wait to wear it!! (and it comes with a stress pineapple. haha) Can't wait to use that! (Finals week is coming up... and also the last few weeks of the USU Pineapple Wednesday.)

Week 1

I am a bit behind in my posting (seeing as tomorrow will be week 4, but I am determined to get all the pineapple project stories up and running).

Week 1 was a rather terrifying experience. I was practically embarrassed to be walking around the USU campus carrying a pineapple. Silly, I know. I just couldn't get up the courage to actually give away my pineapple. I tried on the way to my first class, but just didn't have the courage. Once again, Silly. I know. After class, however, I had ten minutes. Just ten minutes to give away this delectable bit of deliciousness. Suddenly walking towards me, I found the perfect candidate. There are only a few requirements for being awarded the great honor of the pineapple. You have to be walking alone and look like you're a nice person who will appreciate the splendor of the Pineapple Wednesday Pineapple.
So there he was the perfect candidate right in front of my eyes. But would I have the courage to give away my pineapple? Suddenly he was literally right in front of me! Now or never. I sidestepped in front of him. "Hi my name is Amy Jo and this is my friend Lavender Gooms," I said. "And you have just won the Pineapple Wednesday Pineapple! Congratulations!" Talk about a mouthful. He seemed excited as I shoved the pineapple into his hands. Nervous about how he would react, I turned and ran!
I didn't expect much to come of the first Pineapple Wednesday. Everyone told me not to get my hopes up. (though of course I did). To my surprise at around 5pm that evening I received a text message from an unknown number. "Hi thanks for the pineapple. I haven't ate it yet but I'm sure it will be tasty" the text read. PINEAPPLE GUY! I was so excited! I ran across the hall (I live in a dorm building) to find my friends and ask them how to respond. Of course I had to respond. I said something to the effect of Congrats. Hope you like the pineapple. yada yada. Nothing too fancy. He texted back again. Surprise! But only to ask if Pineapple Wednesday is a weekly occurrence. That I truly did not know how to answer. But somehow I did. He never texted back.
But somehow, I feel like I gained a lot from the experience. Pineapple Guy number 1, thanks for not thinking I'm a real creeper!
Happy Pineapple Wednesday!

The Pineapple Project

What is the Pineapple Project you ask? My version of the pineapple project is a little event scheduled every Wednesday... a day i have taken to calling, you guessed it! Pineapple Wednesday. :) On Pineapple Wednesday, a friend and I give away a pineapple (complete with card, bows, and curly ribbon) to a random stranger. (Since I am a female I must admit this random stranger is usually a male...) The goal of this project is simply to meet new (and hopefully pineapple appreciative)people. Included in the card is a way to contact me... while my friend prefers to leave her number out of it and go by an alias (usually borrowed from an episode of Psych. i.e. Lavender Gooms, Ghee Buttersnaps, and Clementine Woolysocks).
The USA Network television series Psych was, I must admit, our inspiration. We love finding the pineapple in every episode and do like the idea of giving pineapples as housewarming presents, baby gifts, etc. And of course to random strangers on Wednesday! :)
